Discovering unusual objects in your yard can be both surprising and intriguing. One common mystery people encounter is a fuzzy cone-shaped object with bright red seeds sticking out of it. At first glance, it may look unusual or even artificial. However, this fascinating object is actually a natural part of a tree’s life cycle.
In most cases, what you’re seeing is a seed pod from a magnolia tree. These distinctive pods are completely natural and play an important role in how magnolia trees reproduce and spread.

The strange object is known as a magnolia seed pod, which is the fruit produced by a magnolia tree. These pods typically resemble small pinecones and are usually about two to four inches long. Their outer surface often appears slightly fuzzy or textured and can range in color from brown to gray.
