Introduction
Beef and macaroni is a comforting, hearty dish that’s perfect for busy days when you want a warm, satisfying meal with minimal effort. This slow cooker version makes it especially easy—everything cooks together in one pot, allowing the flavors to blend beautifully. With tender pasta, savory beef, and melted cheese, it’s a family-friendly favorite that’s both simple and delicious.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef (80–90% lean), raw
- 2 cups dry elbow macaroni (about 8 ounces)
- 1 can (24–26 ounces) pasta sauce or tomato basil marinara
- 2 cups beef broth (or water, but broth is best)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or Colby Jack), plus more for serving if desired
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt (or to taste)
Instructions
- Lightly spray the inside of a 5- to 6-quart slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray to make cleanup easier.
- Break the raw ground beef into small, even pieces and spread it in an even layer over the bottom of the slow cooker.
- Pour the dry elbow macaroni evenly over the beef. Do not stir—keep the layers separate at this stage.
- In a bowl, whisk together the pasta sauce, beef broth, and salt until well combined.
- Slowly pour the sauce mixture over the macaroni, making sure all the pasta is moistened. Gently press down any dry pasta without stirring.
- Cover and cook:
- On HIGH for 2 to 2 1/2 hours, or
- On LOW for 4 to 4 1/2 hours
- About halfway through cooking, briefly lift the lid and stir gently to break up the beef and ensure even cooking. Replace the lid quickly.
- Once the pasta is tender and the beef is fully cooked, turn the slow cooker to WARM or OFF.
- Sprinkle the shredded cheese on top and gently stir until melted and creamy. Adjust salt if needed.
- Let sit covered for 5–10 minutes to thicken slightly before serving. Serve warm with extra cheese if desired.
Conclusion
This slow cooker beef and macaroni is a simple yet flavorful meal that brings comfort to the table with very little effort. It’s versatile, easy to customize, and perfect for feeding a family or preparing leftovers for later. Whether you stick to the classic recipe or add your own twist, it’s a reliable go-to dish you’ll want to make again and again.
